About the Journey

A gathering place for memory and belonging. Sharing food, tales, and reflections on loss and living.

I’m a Scottish writer exploring how we live, grieve, and find meaning. After my father died suddenly, a wave of pain swept me out of myself and into a search of a better way to embrace life (and to deal with death).

When scattering Dad’s ashes in Tibet, I learned there was more than one way to die, more than one way to grieve. And I knew then, my way, was not working. So I did the only thing that made sense at the time — I took my grief on an all-expenses-paid trip around the world.

My husband and I packed up our careers, sold our house, and travelled the world for a year. This transformed my perspective on life, death, and all of our journey in between (and beyond).

I hold a Master’s in Education and a degree in Psychology, and I am a qualified Teacher of the Deaf. These experiences have shaped the way I approach writing today. Examining the human experience with empathy and a keen eye on the power of voice found in empty spaces.

All of this forms the foundation of my memoir-in-progress, The Vulture’s Wings, exploring how other cultures manage death and grief. And brought me here to Eat Write Live. A place for fellow seekers and storytellers to explore memories through food, loss, and living—in no particular order.
